Weekly Update – 18/05/2020
Hello all! In a similar fashion to prior weeks, last week saw the youth work team offering a range of activities and means for young people to access our support.
These included:
- Video tutorials – from a baking video (lemon drizzle as you’re probably keen to know!) to another great drawing tutorial, we have been continuing to demonstrate fun ways for young people to spend their time around school work to support their mental health and wellbeing.
- Quizzes – more kahoots quizzes were run to offer young people something lighthearted to have a go at whilst also getting them thinking – this week’s were very different, from one on conspiracy theories and the mandela effect to another on ice cream!
- Interactive worksheets – those keen to get involved in Thursday’s Dinner & Debate session were given a virtual worksheet to complete anonymously on the topic of change – particularly relevant considering these current times. The questions encouraged young people to reflect on their confidence in managing change, seeking support and what they may say to others struggling with change.
- Live videos – a huge amount of fun was had during a live game of ‘Would you rather!”
- Interactive polls – politics was a key topic of the debate questions posed this week, alongside other various big questions.
Activities continued to be complimented by check in’s and our structured 1:1 mentoring sessions, to enable us to reach out to certain young people to see how they are and provide more intensive, tailored support.
All our delivery is very easy to get involved with, so if you are aware of a young person who may benefit, please take a look at the following page for further details on our current provision and how to get involved. For an update of the past month, we encourage you to take a look at our May newsletter! If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive email notifications for the monthly newsletter and/or weekly update, please feel free to get in touch to let us know.
The week ahead will see us particularly focusing on Mental Health Awareness week through our provision, to enhance young people’s understanding’s of the importance of regularly tuning into how they’re feeling and seeking support if they feel they are struggling. Keep an eye on our @DidcotTRAIN Facebook and Twitter pages where we’ will be posting updates throughout the week!
If you have any questions over the coming days, please do get in touch and in light of MHAW, a reminder to yourselves too of the value in regularly allowing time for self-care – a need we hope you all are able to put into practice over the coming week, or particularly the bank holiday if you’re fortunate to have one!
Take care all and have a lovely week.
Kind regards,
The TRAIN Team
